Karnataka Rajyotsava |
Karnataka, initially named as Mysuru and later named as Karnataka in 1973 is referred from the name “Karu-Nadu” which literally means “Elevated Land”. The land of Kannadigas which was formed on November 1st, 1956 is nothing but the portrayal of the pride and history of our valiant leaders who fought to unite and give an identity to the state that nobody will be able to forget for years to come. Thus, this day was celebrated since then as the Foundation Day of this sandalwood state.
Karnataka Rajyotsava was celebrated on 1st November,2019 in a special Satsang with Gurudev.

Vedavati River Rejevenation
In August 2013,the people of Lakya Hobli , inspired by the Art of Living embarked on a unique journey to bring back water to their community and thousands dependant on the Vedavati river.Working with the Government, a comprehensive watershed management program ,spanning over 377 Sq.Km was executed in a period of merely 14 months.
When I first came to Chikamagulur in2011,I noticed that the natural streams had dried down and ground water levels had plummeted. In 2011, ground water level was available at 250ft. In 2012 water level dropped to 450 ft and in 2013 ,650 ft, in 2014 it was 1100 ft. If such was the state of affairs how would people get water?
Everyone asked the Government to provide water and drill bore well. If there was no ground water ,what was the point of drilling the bore wells.People were not aware of this problem says Project Director Nagaraj Gangoli. Nearly 90 percent of the borewells in the catchment area of Vedavati River had been dry due to over exploitation. The river that once used to flow throughout the year was then restricted to few months of Monsoon.
Inspired by Gurudev ,Nagaraj and the team discussed and interacted with scientists and geologists. With the help of Dr.Lingaraju they conducted a survey and prepared project report for ground water rejuvenation. After undertaking a comprehensive survey ,Art of Living charted out a technical plan to revive the river.
The biggest challenge was to bring the community together to work on the project.Inspiring people of 10 Gram-panchayats to work together was a tough task .49 villages of 10 gram-panchayats were inspired to work together Once all Gram-sabhas were on board, the Rural Development Ministry was approached.
The project provided employment to around 2000 people during the project implementation ,generating 1,84,000 man hours. It was not an easy task says Praveen Gowda ,District Project Supervisor from Art of Living. They had to reach and mark the points identified via satellite ,traversing through hills and steep terrain.Sometimes farmers encroach rivulets and then they could not be found at that place.
At such cases it would become difficult to identify and mark these spots. For first 5 months there was very little progress. But work continued inspite of challenges .Govt officials and various departments were supportive soon 810 water Recharge structures spread over 377Sq. Km. Were constructed in the span of 3 months.Farmers were happy .
They built the pond and within 4-5 days after that ,it had rained and the pond got filled.Says K C Kenge Gowda, Gram Panchayat Member, Eshwarhalli. And within 10 days the water started percolating into the ground. After 5-6 days water got completely percolated into ground. It assured the increase in water table in the land.Rekha Gowda ,member of Zilla Panchayat ,Chickmagulur said that the situation changed and at 100 ft water levels ,it raised to just 3 inchs.
The farmers renewed confidence that they could overcome the water scarcity. In the past they dug borewells of 450- 480 ft but it used to fail. Then the situation was changed as water started emerging out of the land.It was a surprising happiness for farmers.
